Sands Point, NY
Sands Point Preserve Invasive Species Management & Stream Daylighting Project
In Spring 2026, a buried pipe that conveyed pond overflow directly to the coast was daylighted to establish a naturalized stream and freshwater wetland environment. Nassau County Soil and Water Conservation District Part C Funding supported the manual removal of invasive species and the establishment of a riparian buffer along the daylighted stream to restore natural water flow patterns and improve habitat connectivity. The project enhances freshwater wetland habitat, creating valuable habitat for wildlife while helping reduce coastal erosion and habitat loss.
