NYSDEC Community Forest Conservation Grant Program
$1.5 million in competitive grant funding is now available through the NY State’s Community Forest Conservation Grant Program. The Community Forest Conservation (CFC) grant program funds municipal land acquisition for community forests; publicly or privately owned lands that are open to the public. Community forests are vital for wildlife habitat, flood mitigation, recreational opportunities, public health, and improving air and water quality. Community forests build local ownership of forests and local participation in forest management and stewardship. Properties acquired through this grant program allow public access, which encourages residents to enjoy the forests in their community and increase their connection to forest benefits. Community Forest’s contribute to the State’s goals of conserving 30 percent of New York’s lands and waters by 2030.
Municipalities may apply for a minimum of $50,000 up to a maximum of $500,000. Eligible locations for acquisition include private properties of 10 or more acres within New York State. At least 75% of the property must be forested.
