Climate Smart Communities Initiative
The Climate Smart Communities Initiative (CSCI) provides funding and technical assistance to advance community-based climate resilience in U.S. communities that are highly vulnerable to climate change. Funding may support activities such as climate vulnerability and sensitivity analyses, planning processes, community engagement, project prioritization, implementation actions, and obtaining financing for implementation.
Applicants must apply as a partnership that includes a community-based organization, a local/regional government, and an adaptation practitioner. The application process consists of two parts: 1) Letter of Intent (LOI) and 2) full application open to invited applicants.
Funding is prioritized for communities with historically disinvested populations at increased risk of climate-related impacts. The 12-month grant period will begin in July 2027. CSCI anticipates awarding 16–20 grants in the 2027 cycle. No match is required.
