On October 27, 2026 state and local decision makers, municipal staff, and other interested parties working to address flooding, shoreline erosion and other coastal issues gathered at the joint Suffolk and Nassau Forum at the Hyatt Regency Long Island in Hauppauge, NY for the 4th Annual Long Island Sound County Coastal Resilience Forum to identify opportunities to increase resilience, and enhance coordination across communities. The day started with opening remarks from NY Sea Grant Director Rebecca Shuford, Suffolk County Legislator Steven Englebright, and Nassau and Suffolk County Soil and Water Conservation Districts. Forum attendees heard updates on State resilience initiatives from NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, NYS Department of State, and NYS Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services, as well as presentations on buyouts and conservation easements from NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, NYS Homes and Community Renewal, and the Natural Resources Conservation Service (U.S. Department of Agriculture). In the afternoon, forum attendees learned about local resilience initiatives such as the Davis Park Erosion Control District and Shoreline Stabilization project and explored resilience tools and resources during an engaging networking session with over 15 partner organizations. The day ended with an interactive adaptation scenario planning session that encouraged the attendees to use what they learned to identify adaptation strategies.

The event was hosted by Long Island Sound Partnership and New York Sea Grant, in partnership with Nassau and Suffolk County Soil and Water Conservation Districts.
