Hammonasset Beach State Park Coastal Resilience Field Trip and Workshop

On September 16, 2026, the Sustainable and Resilient Communities (SRC) team of the Long Island Sound Partnership and Audubon Connecticut hosted a field trip to Hammonasset Beach State Park in Madison, CT, where Audubon CT and partners are advancing one of Connecticut’s largest coastal resilience and salt marsh restoration initiatives! We started the day at Meigs Point Nature Center with presentations about the science behind the restoration effort, challenges facing Hammonasset’s tidal marshes, and updates on the design of marsh restoration, living shoreline, and culvert replacement projects. After lunch and group discussions, we took a guided walk to view the marsh viewing platform and then visited an upcoming culvert replacement site.
